The possibilities are endless when it comes to hair bows. Some mothers
like their daughter's hair bows to be as small as can be no matter how
old they get, and some mother's like their daughter's hair bows just as
big as we can make them no matter how little their daugher is. You can
have hair bows with just a simple look to them with only four loops
with one solid color, or you can have bows that are holding so many
different styles and patterns that they can have about fifteen
different ribbons in them.
There are two main types of clips you can use to attach your bows. Alligator or pinch clips and barrettes or French clips. Alligator clips are available as single prong or double prong and you can also find them with teeth. French Clips are barrettes come in a wide range of sizes from 40mm-80mm, 1.5"-4". At the end of the day the type of clip you use comes down to personal preference or the preference of your customers.
Once you have chosen your favorite ribbon, you just have to follow a set of simple instructions. First of all, stretch the ribbon completely. Next, twist it around right in the middle, and form a sort of loop. Hold the ribbon in that position tightly so that the loop is not distorted. You can make double loops in a similar manner, using another ribbon and then attaching the two together. Your basic bow is now ready.
For this bow you will need 32" of ribbon one or 2 inches wide. Form loops by folding ribbon back and forth on a slight diagonal, creating four loops and two ends. Note that both ends come at the top. Wind thread around center of loops and tighten. Arrange loops into pretty bow.
It is important to treat the violin and the bow with a lot of care; so keep it in its case when not in use, whether it is for a short duration or for extended periods. The neck of the violin is a sensitive area, prone to breaking if used roughly, and the instrument should never be dropped as that will permanently damage it.
Brush one time or twice each day, particularly prior to shampooing, to circulate scalp oils and to preclude tangling. The rougher and denser your hair is, the stiffer the brush bristles ought to be. They can be nylon, plastic, or natural (boar bristle), but should have rounded tips and smooth shafts. To brush correctly, bow at the waistline and lightly and slowly draw the brush through from the nape of the neck frontwards. This protects the more delicate hair at the crown of your head and about your face.
Springy, bouncy, frizzy, coarse, or fine hair, it does not matter, curly hair is the most challenging hair for me to cut. Specifically, the coarse or frizzy head of hair, where the client is not product oriented. I love cutting it's twists and turns, but this was not always true, clients would leave with haircuts that looked like pyramids, cones, or entirely too bulky. The finesse of texturing, channeling, or cutting the hair dry, took me years to develop and perfect.
